Mangold Confirms B&W Version of ‘Logan’ Coming to Theaters in May

Logan B&W

Good news, Wolverine fans! Director James Mangold has confirmed via Twitter recently that there will be a special black & white version of the Wolverine movie Logan and it will be shown in theaters for one night only. According to Mangold, the B&W version will be shown on May 16th (Tuesday) in cinemas only in the US. In my interview with James Mangold from earlier this year, we talked about a B&W version. At the time (right after the premiere of the film at the Berlin Film Festival), he said he wouldn’t have originally made it in B&W for financial reasons, but when asked about creating a special version (like with Mad Max: Fury Road) he had only started thinking about it. “We could [do that]. That might be fun. I haven’t had a chance [to think about it yet], I’d be curious about it.” Well, now it’s official, and it will be playing on the big screen. ›››

Watch: Adam Savage Visits the Set of Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien: Covenant’

Alien: Covenant Set Visit

“This is all in service of allowing the actors… to enter into the ‘universe’.” If you haven’t realized, Adam Savage is a huge movie geek. Not only has he worked on movies, but he loves to be a part of them and learn about all the behind-the-scenes trickery that makes them so magical. The latest video from his web series Tested goes behind-the-scenes of Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. Savage goes on set and examines some of the impressive set pieces, including the Engineer’s chair inside the main Dreadnought ship. This is cool to see, but obviously they’re working hard to make sure nothing is spoiled. I wish we could see more, but alas we have to wait (just a few more weeks) until the movie is in theaters to learn all the secrets. For now, enjoy. ›››

Watch: Tilda Swinton in ‘Okja’ Introduces Us to the ‘Super Pig Project’

Tilda Swinton Okja

“You know who you are. And always remember… so do I.” Well, that’s a rather creepy slogan. Netflix has launched an impressive and interesting new viral campaign for the upcoming film Okja, made by Korean writer/director Bong Joon-ho. The film is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in one month, but leading up to then, they’ve launched this viral website for the “Mirando Corporation“. Tilda Swinton plays the CEO, Lucy Mirando, described as an “image obsessed and self-promoting” person who’s the antagonist in the film. Her memo sent our by Netflix PR is all about introducing us to the “Super Pig Project“, which is their way of attempting to solve food shortage problems by genetically engineering giant pigs. Seriously. ›››

Time is Running Out in First TV Spots for Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk’

Dunkirk Movie Trailer

“She’ll fight on the beaches. She’ll fight in the fields, in the streets. But she’ll never surrender.” Warner Bros has started revealing new TV spots for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated new WWII action thriller Dunkirk, about the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940 at the beginning of WWII. We’re still waiting for the new trailer to debut, but these TV spots have arrived online first, and they’re all worth watching. Starring Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, James D’Arcy, Harry Styles, Aneurin Barnard, Jack Lowden, and Adam Long. When Allied soldiers from Belgium, Britain and France were surrounded by the German army during a fierce battle in France at the start of WWII, they had to evacuate by boat across the English channel. This is looking better the more they show. More intensity, more urgency. ›››

Watch: ‘Meet Walter’ Video Introducing New ‘Alien: Covenant’ Android

Meet Walter Video

“The all-new Walter. Created to serve.” 20th Century Fox has revealed a brand new promo video for Alien: Covenant, introducing the newest version of the android made by Weyland-Yutani. The term used by the company is “synthetic”, and the character is again played by Michael Fassbender. In Prometheus, he was called David, but in this movie he’s known as Walter – so this video is all about meeting Walter. “Walter is the world’s most advanced synthetic companion, designed to help you achieve a better human experience. Each model is individually calibrated to serve its owner’s unique set of needs and preferences.” There’s a new website as well to custom build your own Walter. I like this marketing – it connects back to Prometheus and the marketing for David (and the TED Talk) and it’s a a very clever world-building concept. See below. ›››

Cameron’s ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ in 3D Hits Theaters in August

Terminator 2 in 3D

Briefly: The release date has been announced for the 3D conversion re-release of James Cameron’s seminal sci-fi classic Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Distrib Films US will release T2 in 3D in theaters starting on August 25th, 2017 later this summer. No exact theater list or additional info has been released yet (via Deadline), but we’ll keep an eye out for any updates released. Last August we first reported the news that Cameron’s acclaimed sci-fi action classic would be getting the 3D re-release treatment (following Titanic in 3D in 2012), but didn’t know when it would be arriving. Now we know – so mark August 25th down in your calendar, if you’re interested in seeing this. There is another new Terminator movie in development (with Deadpool’s Tim Miller set to direct for now), but Cameron will regain certain rights to Terminator in 2019.

Release the Beasts – One Final Trailer for ‘Kong: Skull Island’ Debuts

Kong: Skull Island Trailer

“We gotta get out of this place…” Whoa! Oh hell yes! Warner Bros has released one final trailer for Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island, which hits theaters everywhere in just a few more weeks. This looks totally awesome, and I can’t wait to dive into it and meet the big guy. Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson star with a cast including Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, John C. Reilly, Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Thomas Mann, Shea Wigham, Toby Kebbell and Eugene Cordero. The other trailers have shown quite a bit of promise, but with polished VFX this final trailer is all out epic. Vogt-Roberts also commented that he wanted them to make this final trailer in the model of The Handmaiden trailer, and it’s fantastic. I’m still floored by some of the amazing shots in this. Watch below. ›››

First Featurette for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Introduces the Next Chapter

Avengers: Infinity War Featurette

“I feel like I’m on top of the world, because this is just mind-blowing.” Marvel has released a new behind-the-scenes production featurette for Avengers: Infinity War, the next big superhero crossover movie hitting theaters in the summer of 2018. The video is more of an announcement of the start of production – filming began on January 23rd, 2017, under the working title Mary Lou, at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Georgia. Filming is expected to last until October/November 2017 – which is an extremely long shoot, but makes sense for a movie as epic as this. The Russo Brothers are directing, and instead of being split into two parts, it will be one big movie. This video features Kevin Feige, with appearances by Chris Pratt (Star Lord), Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) as well as a few others. Fire it up. ›››

Super Bowl Spot for ‘Baywatch’ Starring Dwayne Johnson & Zac Efron

Baywatch Super Bowl TV Spot

“While you’re watching the game, they are watching the bay.” Paramount has debuted a Super Bowl TV spot for the summer comedy version of Baywatch, the movie, from director Seth Gordon. This is a fairly tame TV spot, just selling all the attractive guys and girls that are in this more than anything. Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson play two Baywatch lifeguards; also starring Alexandra Daddario, Priyanka Chopra, Pamela Anderson, Ilfenesh Hadera, Charlotte McKinney, Kelly Rohrbach, Hannibal Buress, plus of course David Hasselhoff. I’m still hoping this turns out okay, but this TV spot is not an impressive sell for this movie. You have to take a look at this anyway just because it stars Dwayne Johnson. ›››
